Posting a video on the popular YouTube.com website seems to have paid off for police in Hamilton, Ont.
Accompanied by a lawyer, George Gallo, 24, turned himself in to police on Tuesday after investigators posted a minute-long security camera video on popular video-sharing website.
Gallo has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder in relation to the Nov. 17 death of 22-year-old Ryan Miller and the stabbing of another individual.
The second victim "continues to recover at home," police said in a written statement released Wednesday.
Police uploaded the video clip to YouTube in early December, hoping it would draw out witnesses. Since the time it was uploaded, the video was reportedly viewed online about 17,000 times.
Posting security video online was considered a first for a Canadian police force. Hamilton police said it was the first time they had tried something like this during an active investigation.
Investigators believed the jumpy video of people at a concert would get wide exposure among the age group of people who attended the Nov. 16 show at Hamilton's Club Seventy Seven.
Miller was stabbed to death shortly after the concert. The attack occurred at the corner of King William and Catharine Streets.
It is unclear whether the YouTube video had anything to do with Gallo's arrest.
The suspect made a court appearance Wednesday morning.
The lead investigator in the case scheduled a news conference for Thursday morning to discuss details of the case.
