Video gambling machines have been pulled from Ontario casinos after reports of subliminal messages being flashed while players are using the machines.

Eighty-seven of 22,000 slot machines were pulled by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation after the problem was noticed.

An investigation was launched by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario after concerns were raised about a message that appears during the games' spinning wheel animation.

The animated screen spins 30 to 40 times a second and it flashes a jackpot-winning combination for a brief instant. The jackpot image cannot be seen by the naked eye as the game is played, but is reportedly visible when the animation is slowed down.

Affected machines are manufactured by Konami Gaming and go by the names Most Wanted, Sgt. Fritter and The Billionaires.
