TORONTO - A lengthy investigation by the RCMP has led to charges against four people in an alleged mortgage fraud in Toronto.

Police say a mortgage was obtained on a residential Toronto property whose title was stolen and fraudulently registered in 2004.

They allege that fraudulent information was used to obtain and later default on about $311,000 in mortgage funds from a lender.

Stanley Ehrlich, 53, Basil Georgieff, 54, Alan Chang, 59, and Fiona Chang, 29 -- all from the Toronto area -- are charged with various offences.

They include fraud and theft over $5,000, fraudulent registration of title and possession of property obtained by crime and false pretences.

The accused are scheduled to appear at the Newmarket courthouse on May 31.
