Toronto police are investigating after a man was allegedly deliberately run down and killed by a car early Sunday morning in the city's west end.
Police said 20-year-old Daryl Sabado was having a house party when he left his home and got into an argument with the suspect around 4:30 a.m.
"We know that he had friends over at his house. What brought him out to the intersection? We're not sure yet," said Toronto police Det. Sgt. Steve Ryan.
"It was at that point when he got into the altercation with the driver of the suspect car."
Police said the accused got into his vehicle on McRoberts Avenue and pursued the victim, who was on foot, until he struck him with his silver car.
The driver of the car was arrested at the scene and charged with second degree murder. Police said five people were in the car when Sabado was hit.
Investigators said there's no indication that the accused knew the victim and they still don't know what led to the fight.
Family and friends were devastated when they found out Sabado had died. The victim's mother was comforted when she arrived at the scene shortly after hearing the news.
"He's the oldest of the family and it's really hard," said Jemellee Manzano, Sabado's cousin.
Relatives said Sabado was a part-time student at George Brown College. He came to Canada from the Philippines three years ago to be with his mother.
Mourners said the victim was like a father figure to his younger brother and sister after their parents divorced.
The name of the accused has not been released.
