Toronto police have received court permission to release the identity of a 16-year-old boy wanted in connection with a double murder in Scarborough.

The boy was considered a person of interest after Wednesday's early-morning double shooting, but police have now labelled him a suspect.

Investigators released his image and name after receiving authorization from a judge.

Two men, Shawn Day, 33, and Clifford Charles, 43, died after being shot in the chest on Rylander Boulevard, in the Kingston Road and Sheppard Avenue East area.

One victim was found dead inside a home at about 4 a.m., while the other was found a short time later bleeding inside a nearby SUV that had crashed into a tree. He died en route to hospital.

Homicide investigators said the men were targeted, but would not elaborate on the possible motive.

The victims are the city's 37th and 38th murders of the year.
