Police have charged a man with impaired driving after a serious accident over the weekend that left another man clinging to life.

The accident happened Friday evening shortly after 6 p.m. A Toyota Camry was travelling northbound on Don Mills Road, just north of Lawrence Avenue, when police say it rear-ended a Ford Taurus.

The driver of the Taurus lost control of the car and ended up rolling over the centre median, onto oncoming traffic and onto the southbound lanes. A van was unable to avoid the Taurus and rammed into it.

The driver of the Taurus is being treated in hospital for life-threatening injuries. His wife and son who were travelling with him escaped with minor injuries.

The driver of the van was treated at the scene for minor injuries while the driver of the Camry was taken to hospital with non-serious wounds.

Amir Hekmati, a 50-year-old resident of Toronto, is facing four charges including impaired driving and dangerous driving.
