Toronto recorded its 82nd murder of the year Sunday afternoon after a man was shot and killed in Regent Park.

Witnesses reported hearing four to five shots ring out at an apartment building on Blevins Place, near River and Shuter Streets, at around 2:35 p.m.

When police arrived on the scene, they found a man lying face-down in a pool of blood near a playground, Staff Sgt. Randy Carter told CTV.ca.

No children were in the playground at the time, he said.

"When officers arrived, he was absent of any vital signs," he said. "Paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene."

The victim has not yet been identified, Carter said.

Witnesses told police they saw about five people running from the scene.

Four teenagers have been brought into 51 Divison for questioning but they were not placed under arrest.

Officers are currently canvassing the area looking to speak to witnesses.

"People can certainly approach our officers but I understand they might be hesitant to do that, so at the very least, they can give us a call and we'll arrange for a more discreet way to make contact," Carter said.

Anyone with information is being urged to call police at 416-808-5100. They can also leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
