York Regional Police have recovered the body of a 60-year-old Toronto man who went missing on Lake Simcoe while ice fishing over the weekend.

Ilia Vaxman was found on Tuesday afternoon near the southern end of the lake where he went missing on Sunday, police said.

Heavy fog in the area lifted on Tuesday, allowing an airboat with infrared technology to assist in the search.

Police are warning that Lake Simcoe has not frozen over because of the fluctuating temperatures, and is not safe to go on.

"There are still many areas of open water on Lake Simcoe and ice fishermen and snowmobilers are reminded that conditions are dangerous and extreme caution should be used," states a press release.
