Family, friends and teammates said goodbye on Tuesday to a young lacrosse player who died after a hit during a game last week.

Jamieson Kuhlmann, a 15-year-old who attended Malvern Collegiate, suffered serious injuries after being struck in a match on Victoria Day. He never regained consciousness and was taken off life support a few days later.

A memorial was held at the Balmy Beach Club to celebrate the life of the former Toronto Beaches midget player.

Kuhlmann's father said while his son's death is a tragedy, no one is to blame.

"The family that is directly involved is hurting probably as much as we are and it will take a while to heal," Mark Kuhlmann said. "We extend the same compassion that they've given us."

The teen's mother said her son touched a lot of people in his short life.

"He was a true teacher in such a young life," Michelle Weber said.

Kuhlmann's stepmother says his spirit will live on through others.

"Jamieson donated many of his organs and I'm thrilled for those families," Sharon Barr said. "There are over eight families that are benefiting from this at the moment."

Kuhlmann's classmates described the teen as funny, outgoing and a great athlete.

Teammates wore Kuhlmann's #45 to honour him.
