A man was shot at least four times inside a Woodbridge home on Thursday after answering the door for what he believed was a delivery man.
The 33-year-old victim was hit in the arms and abdomen, and taken to Sunnybrook Hospital.
The shooting happened at a home on Rosebury Lane, near Islington Avenue and Highway 7, over the noon hour. The man is a tenant at the home, York Regional Police said.
The victim was conscious on the way to the hospital and his injuries are not considered life threatening.
He told police he was shot after answering the door to someone who identified himself as a delivery man.
Heavily armed officers scoured the streets looking for the suspect. A canine unit was also used.
The victim, who remains in hospital under a police guard, said he got a good look at his attacker. Police have not released a suspect description or the victim's name.
Investigators said they don't yet know the motive for the attack.
Residents in the neighbourhood said they were stunned to hear the gunfire and see the heavy police presence.
"It's scary, surprisingly scary," said one woman.
"It's a shock," said one man.
