A deer is on the loose in a residential area just east of High Park.

The young animal was spotted Sunday afternoon in a narrow alleyway behind two houses on Dundas Street West, just south of Bloor Street.

Toronto police were worried the deer would dart out into the busy Dundas Street traffic and so attempted to trap the animal.

Authorities used blinders to corral the animal through an open gate leading to a backyard. However, police decided to close Dundas first in case the animal were to escape.

Police were able to lead the deer into the backyard but immediately, the animal scampered away by jumping the fence.

It has not been spotted since.

Police say the deer likely came from High Park which is located less than a kilometre away.
