HAMILTON - A suspected shoplifter who died after he was chased out of a Canadian Tire store in Hamilton and restrained by employees was identified Friday as Djo Bwabwa Kalamba.

An autopsy is underway but police said they probably won't be releasing the 20-year-old's cause of death in the near future.

Kalamba, who was from Hamilton, was confronted at the store Thursday by a security guard and an employee and reportedly scuffled with them before running away.

They chased him through the parking lot and onto a home's lawn where witnesses said there was another confrontation.

Police said the guard, along with several employees and passersby, restrained Kalamba on the ground and he became unresponsive.

They called paramedics, who arrived to find him without vital signs and he was pronounced dead at hospital.
