A serious accident on the Don Valley Parkway caused traffic tie-ups in both directions on Thursday afternoon.

Police believe a man was walking his bicycle across the northbound lanes near Dundas Street when he was struck by a car at about 2 p.m.

The man was sent through the windshield of the small red car, and his bike was sent into the southbound lanes.

The victim was taken to St. Michael's Hospital in serious condition, but Sgt. Tim Burrows later said the man only suffered a broken leg.

All northbound lanes were closed, and a portion of one southbound lane was shut down as investigators collected evidence.

All lanes were reopened shortly before 4 p.m.

Anyone who many have witnessed the crash or saw where the cyclist came from is asked to call Traffic Services at 416-808-1900.

Police said the cyclist will likely be charged.
