TORONTO - A Toronto police officer has been arrested and charged with allegedly importing an illegal gun barrel into Canada.

Police allege the officer purchased a gun barrel on the Internet and it was discovered when the item was opened by a Canadian border guard.

The barrel is classified as a prohibited device.

Constable Alan McCullough, a seven-year veteran, is charged with importing a prohibited device and smuggling prohibited goods.

The 39-year-old officer is also charged with careless storage of a firearm and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 3.
