A mother and her three-year-old boy are recovering in hospital after being struck by an SUV while crossing an east-end street.

The woman was pushing her child in a stroller along Warden Avenue near Eglinton Avenue just before 9 a.m. Wednesday when they were hit.

Police said the woman had just gotten off a city bus when she pushed the stroller out from between parked cars and into the path of the SUV.

Investigators said the child was taken to the Hospital for Sick Children with serious injuries, but later said the boy suffered only minor cuts and scrapes.

The mother was taken to Scarborough General Hospital to be treated for minor cuts and abrasions.

The accident closed Warden south of Eglinton for most of the morning.

Police said the collision occurred because the woman disregarded basic safety rules and should have crossed the street at a light or crosswalk.
