A teen has been charged after a woman was struck in the city's east end on Friday night, leaving her with life-threatening injuries.
The victim is undergoing surgery at Sunnybrook Hospital this morning.
Staff Sgt. Keith Haines of Toronto Police Traffic Services told CTV.ca the 17-year-old will appear in court Saturday on impaired-driving charges.
Around 9:20 p.m., a car travelling westbound on Kingston Road struck the woman as she crossed the intersection at Orchard Park.
The car went into the eastbound lanes after the collision.
The driver fled the scene. A witness called police and followed the driver until police caught up with him several kilometres from the accident site.
The identity of the 43-year-old victim has not been released. However, police confirmed she does live near the scene of the accident.
The woman had been pushing a baby stroller but it was full of groceries and other personal items.
