Wedding bells rang all across Toronto Friday, as couples looking for luck picked the triple-eight to say "I do."

The eighth day, of the eighth month, of the eighth year is said to bring good fortune, and what better day to get a blessing from the fates.

Alice Munro was one of the brides who walked down the aisle on Friday. She told CTV Toronto eight is her favourite number.

"Zeroes and eight are infinity numbers. They don't end, just like a marriage," she said while getting her hair done.

Her fiance Fabrizzio Stella thought this would be the perfect day for their wedding.

"It's a number that never ends, just like a marriage is supposed to be," he said.

Stella booked their wedding two years ago, anticipating the rush of couples who would also be putting their faith in the number eight.

City official Virginia Ceni said 8-8-8 is more competitive than Valentine's Day, and couples were lined up at city hall.

Robert and Elainy Quach also wanted to marry on the symbolic day of the Chinese Calendar.

Translated into Chinese, 8-8-8 means prosperity or fortune, also known as good luck.

Elainy also has a much simpler reason for choosing the date -- she hopes 8-8-8 will help her husband remember their wedding day.

"Guys aren't usually good with numbers."
