A quiet community in North York is the scene of Toronto's latest homicide after a man's bloodied body was found in a wooded area behind the Bathurst Jewish Community Centre.

The police' forensics unit and the homicide squad are investigating the scene just north of Sheppard Avenue on the west side of Bathurst Street investigating the scene.

Police say they have not identified the victim who was found Sunday afternoon by a cyclist. The body was found in an area often populated with seniors and children who live in the area. It backs onto the parking lot of the popular community centre.

"(Crime) is not just isolated areas anymore, it seems to be happening all over the city," said one man who works in the area. "It just gives the sense that things aren't as safe as they used to be."

The victim is described as a black male, sporting a short Afro hairstyle and an earring in his left ear. He is between 17 and 25 years of age.

He was found wearing black Converse All-Star sneakers, white socks, blue denim shorts with blue sports shorts underneath. He was wearing a red sweatshirt with a white motif and a red baseball cap with a white motif.

Police area asking anyone with information to call the homicide squad at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
