A Seneca College flight instructor had to make an emergency landing on a New York State highway Wednesday after a plane he was flying suddenly lost power over the Adirondack Mountains.
Pilot Michael Denning from Seneca's School of Aviation was flying with two students in a single-engine aircraft to Burlington, Vt., when the plane's engine failed just before 5 p.m.
Denning alerted Burlington air traffic controllers and he was given permission to land on a roadway.
Denning landed the plane on the northbound lanes of Interstate 87 near the town of North Hudson, which is about 150 kilometres north of Albany.
The landing did not cause any damage to the plane and there were no injuries.
