TORONTO - Federal health officials say there are now 15 confirmed deaths from a country-wide listeriosis outbreak linked to processed meats.

The latest death is in Ontario, where 13 people now are said to have died as a result of the Listeria strain identified in the outbreak.

No hometown or other details of the case were released.

The other deaths from listeriosis have come in British Columbia and Alberta.

In total, there have been 42 confirmed listeriosis cases linked to the outbreak in the country.

Five of those are deaths that remain under investigation to determine if listeriosis was a contributing cause of death.

The outbreak has been linked to recalled meat from a Maple Leaf Foods plant in Toronto.
