Police are appealing for yet more co-operation in the shooting death of Toronto's 50th homicide victim on a basketball court in the Jane and Finch area.

Det. Sgt. Gary Grinton of the Toronto Police Service's homicide squad told a news conference Wednesday that "we've interviewed an awful lot of people from that neighbourhood. The community has shown a tremendous amount of support.

"We have some leads, but nothing firm," he said. "At this point in time, we don't know who did this."

The police only know that three individuals approached the 18-year-old victim -- William Junior Appiah, 18 -- at 4400 Jane St. shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

There was a conversation before shooting broke out, which happened with people all around the scene. Grinton said he wouldn't release the nature of that conversation.

The vague description available is that the three were black males under the age of 20, with at least two wearing hoodies, Grinton said.

They left the scene in a small, silver vehicle of Japanese make, he said.

An autopsy will be performed on Appiah on Thursday.

Although the victim had a minor criminal record, Grinton said he didn't think that was related to the homicide.

Appiah was one of three people to be murdered the GTA on Tuesday. One man was shot in Malton, and a third person was stabbed in the Kennedy-Sheppard area.

Grinton noted that 10 fewer homicides have occurred in Toronto so far this year when compared to the same period in 2007.

Anyone with more information about the shooting of Appiah can contact the homicide squad at (416) 808-7400.
