TORONTO - First-year enrolment at Ontario's colleges continued a strong upward trend this year with a 5.6 per cent increase over last year.

Colleges Ontario says September enrolment at the 24 colleges totalled 95,805 students in the first year of studies.

This 5.6 per cent increase builds on last year's first-year enrolment increase of 5.5 per cent.

Colleges Ontario president Linda Franklin says even in the current economy, college grads are in demand to fill vacant positions.

That demand, says Franklin, will only intensify in the years ahead as more baby boomers retire.
