York Regional Police say they have no new leads in their investigation after spending the weekend reviewing evidence connected with the robbery of an armoured truck.
Nearly $3 million was stolen from a Garda armoured vehicle Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. after two guards parked the car outside a bank branch in Richmond Hill to make a deposit.
The money disappeared while the guards replenished the ATM machines at the RBC Royal Bank Branch on Yonge Street, south of King Road.
Detectives spent most of the weekend reviewing security tapes and interviewing potential witnesses but so far, they have been unable to identify any suspects in the robbery.
Police say the thieves would have had to have opened the rear door of the truck as well as a door to a safe inside the vehicle in order to get to the money.
Investigators are considering the possibility the suspects cracked security codes on both doors using a high-tech gadget. Authorities said if such a device actually exists, it should be of great concern to all armoured car companies.
Police are also looking into whether the codes and locks were tampered with.
Garda Armoured Car Service, the company that owns the vehicle, is offering a $100,000 reward for the return of the missing cash and information on possible suspects.
