Toronto police are investigating an overnight shooting near Kennedy Road and Lawrence Avenue East that has claimed the life of a man in his 20s.

The shooting occurred at the Little Ochie restaurant and bar.

"The indications are that there was an altercation that may have taken place inside the restaurant, " Det. John Biggerstaff of the Toronto Police Service's homicide unit told reporters.

"The altercation continued outside into the parking lot. There's some evidence to support that there were numerous gunshots. How many people were shooting is undetermined at this time."

Sgt. Jason Shankaran told ctvtoronto.ca that he could confirm that two people were shot around 3 a.m. on Saturday.

Toronto Emergency Medical Services confirmed to ctvtoronto.ca that a male in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim, who showed up at Scarborough General Hospital about 20 minutes later, is in non-life-threatening condition with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police haven't released the victim's name yet or any information about a possible suspect.

CTV Toronto reported that businesses that share the plaza with Little Ochie say there have been previous problems, including drinking in the parking lot, fights and drug dealing.

One storeowner complained of being robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot.

"Two gentlemen was standing up there. They hold on me a gun," said Fode Dansoko. "They say, 'you move, we going to kill you,' and they take everything in my wallet."

He then ran to call police.

Caprice Duncan said she knows of people who have gone in the restaurant and "didn't like the attitude."
