TORONTO - Andrea Horwath kicked off her first day in the Ontario legislature as NDP leader with a standing ovation but few answers.

Premier Dalton McGuinty was the first to walk across the floor to shake Horwath's hand and congratulate the newly minted leader.

He was followed by all his ministers and members of every party.

Horwath kept her weekend promise to make job losses her first order of business, asking McGuinty why he hasn't done more to help struggling workers.

But McGuinty simply said the government has been working to create jobs and will continue to do so.

Horwath won her bid to lead the NDP during a weekend convention in her hometown of Hamilton.

She beat out three fellow caucus members to replace Howard Hampton.
