A 14-year-old youth faces two charges after phoning in a gun threat to 911 that triggered a lockdown at a Brampton school.

Peel police said in a news release on Tuesday that they received the call about Bramalea Secondary School, located at 510 Balmoral Dr., at 1:15 p.m. They announced the lifting of the lockdown shortly after 2:45 p.m.

"Investigators were able to locate the anonymous caller and quickly determined that the allegations were false," they said in a news release.

Const. J.P. Valade told ctvtoronto.ca earlier that police didn't receive any specifics about the alleged gun-toters, only that they are male.

"That's the extent of the information we were given," he said.

The school has more than 1,800 students, just under150 staff and 82 classrooms.

"Given the fact that we have that many students and that many classrooms, it makes it all that much more difficult to investigate. However, we have to take the complaint seriously," Valade said.

Police said in a news release that the lockdown lasted about one hour.

On Tuesday evening, they announced the youth, who cannot be named, has been charged with public mischief and conveying a false message.

The youth is to appear in a Brampton court on Wednesday.
