A 28-year-old woman died after being struck by a delivery truck at the intersection of Blue Jays Way and Front Street, while she was talking on a cellphone.

Toronto police say the woman started walking south on Front Street on the west side of the intersection while the driver was making a right turn, just before 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Police say the truck attempted to make the right turn while it was stopped at a red light.

The woman walked into the side of the vehicle and was run over by its rear tires. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Tim Burrows told CTV News that the cellphone "may have been the distracting factor that made it so she was not aware of the truck that was turning."

Police say it is unlikely that charges will be laid against the truck driver.
