Peel Regional Police are warning parents and pet owners to be wary of suspicious items in parks, after a dog was poisoned with windshield-wiper fluid.

The dog became ill on Monday after eating the contents of a yogurt cup in Mississauga's Tom Chater Memorial Park.

Investigators say the cup contained meat laced with windshield-wiper fluid. Veterinarians treated the animal and it's expected to recover.

"Peel Regional Police would like to remind all residents walking outdoors with dogs and small children to be attentive, in order to ensure that they do not come into contact with suspicious objects," police said in a press release.

"Anyone coming into contact with a substance suspected to have been left behind for a malicious purpose is encouraged to contact police."

Anyone with information about the incident are encouraged to call investigators at (905) 453-2121, extension 1133. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
