An 18-year-old Toronto man is dead after being shot near a bus stop in the city's west end.

The shooting occurred around 10:45 p.m. Friday at 4049 Dundas Street West, near Scarlett Road.

Toronto police told ctvtoronto.ca that the victim was confronted by two suspects, one carrying a handgun.

Witnesses reported that at least two shots were fired, with one striking the victim, whom police have named as Jarvis St. Remy.

St. Remy was transported to Mount Sinai hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The murder is Toronto's 16th of 2009.

Police do not yet have any suspects in custody.

The victim's family said St. Remy was a friendly Grade 12 student, who dreamed of being an engineer. They are still in shock that he is gone.

His aunt, Sansha Joseph, said Saturday that her nephew was "a very family-oriented boy" who never gave anybody any trouble.

"He's not a troubled boy. He's not miserable, he's not into any gangs," said Joseph. "He barely has friends, he barely goes anywhere."

She said those responsible for her nephew's death should come forward to police.

"You took a big part of our family away and there's nothing you can do, the law can do, to change it," Joseph said. "But if you have a heart left, the least you can do is turn yourself in."
