Police are investigating a shooting in the west end that has left 14-year-old Adrian Johnston dead.
A senior officer at 12 Division told ctvtoronto.ca that since the case is now being passed to the homicide squad, he cannot comment.
This case would be Toronto's 18th homicide of 2009 -- the same as last year at this time. The year-to-date homides at this time were 20 in 2006 and 23 in 2007. Shooting incidents are up 22 per cent over this time in 2008.
The call for the latest death came in shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday.
Police from 12 Division -- which runs from Lawrence Avenue West south to the CPR tracks, and from the Humber River east to the CNR rail line -- responded to a scene at Scarlett Road and Eileen Avenue.
Images from the CTV Toronto news helicopter showed a tarp-covered body on a hydro line right-of-way. The location is very close to the Lambton Golf and Country Club.
Police set up a perimeter and used police dogs to search the golf course.
The location is also about 400 to 500 metres from where two suspects shot Jarvis St. Remy to death at a Dundas Street West bus stop, just west of Scarlett Road, on the evening of May 1. No arrest has been made yet in that 12 Division case.
About 2.5 kilometres to the northeast, police in 12 Division made two arrests in the April 22 shooting death of 19-year-old Danny Lewis.
Just over a kilometre north of Monday's shooting death, Omar Waite got shot in 12 Division near a TTC bus stop at Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue. He died of his injuries on April 23. No arrests have been made yet.
Other than geography, however, it isn't yet clear if there are any links between the three shootings.
Police are also wondering whether there are links between those shootings and a wild shooting spree at a house party at 530 The West Mall early Sunday. Six people were wounded in that incident, three of whom remain in serious condition.
