Baby Kaylee Vitelli's has been brought back to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children.

The three-month-old infant, who made headlines in April after being caught in the middle of a national organ transplant debate, was earlier being cared for at Southlake Regional Health Centre.

A family spokesperson said the baby had developed an infection and fever.

At first, Kaylee was responding well to medication but on Sunday, her infection reoccurred and her fever spiked to 38.5 Celsius.

Through the spokesperson, Kaylee's father Jason Wallace had complained that Kaylee shoul be taken by ambulance to Sick Kids "regardless of whether they have a bed or not."

The Hospital for Sick Children released a statement about the matter on Tuesday afternoon, before Kaylee was transported to the hospital.

"A formal request was never made to transfer Kaylee to SickKids and the availability of a bed for Kaylee was not and is not an issue. Our physicians have been working closely with Kaylee's doctors at Southlake for several days. We have provided them with advice on how to best address Kaylee's current medical needs," the statement said.

"We have full confidence in the medical team at Southlake and we will continue to support them regarding Kaylee's care plan. If her medical team determines that a transfer is necessary, we will be ready to provide her with the level of care she needs."

It wasn't the first time Wallace has complained about Sick Kids.

Last month, he had his daughter transferred out of the hospital after complaining about the care she received.

The hospital has always stood by their staff and has insisted Kaylee has received the best of care under their watch.

Kaylee has a rare brain condition known as Joubert Syndrome. It causes a condition known as sleep apnea where she stops breathing when she sleeps.

Her story made national headlines -- and triggered a debate about the ethics of organ donations -- in April when her parents made public their desire that Kaylee's heart be transplanted into another ill baby at the Hospital for Sick Children.

Doctors believed Kaylee would die without life support and agreed to transplant her heart into the other baby when she died. But Kaylee continued to breathe on her own after she was taken off life support. Doctors deemed her to no longer be a transplant candidate.
