Ann Cavoukian has been appointed to a third term as Ontario's privacy czar.

Cavoukian was reappointed as the province's information and privacy commissioner by the Ontario legislature on Tuesday.

She will continue to serve in the position that she has held since 1997.

"I would like to sincerely thank members of the legislature for their strong support," Cavoukian said in a statement. "I feel very honoured to serve as Ontario's Information and Privacy Commissioner."

The commissioner said she will use her third term to continue to find ways of using technology to protect personal privacy, rather than encroach upon it.

According to her official biography, Cavoukian first joined the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner in 1987.

Three years later, she was named assistant commissioner, and ten years after joining the office, she became the provincial privacy commissioner.
