A former Toronto fire captain awaits sentencing after a judge skipped a Crown prosecutor's final submissions and found the defendant guilty of possessing child pornography.

On Thursday night, Justice Anne Malloy told the court that she had found Scott Connor guilty of possessing child pornography, as well as a number of other criminal counts that included weapons charges and a charge related to the marijuana grow operation he was running in his Scarborough home.

Right before a Crown prosecutor was about to make her final submissions, the judge informed the court she had enough information to make a decision.

Molloy said she had found Connor guilty of a number of charges and would not accept any of the evidence he gave to the court in recent days.

The judge said she will provide the court with a statement on Sept. 16, explaining the reasons for her decision to convict Connor. At that time, she will also deliver his sentence.

The 48-year-old Connor was a fire captain who lived in a home on Copping Road, near Morningside Park, that was raided in September 2006.

Police said they found 30 hours worth of child pornography videos on his computer, several weapons, as well as evidence that he was running a small marijuana grow operation in his home.

Det. Christopher Purchase told CTV Toronto that the judge told the court she would be "disregarding" Connor's testimony at his trial.

"She did say after the completion of the evidence that the Crown presented an overwhelming case and that she's going to be disregarding any evidence that Mr. Connor had to offer," he said.

In court, Connor testified that he discovered the child pornography while downloading music and movies. He said he deleted what he found, including material that was downloaded hours before his 2006 arrest.
