Toronto police confirm that a female pedestrian believed to be 80 years old has died in west Toronto after being struck by a truck.

Const. Hugh Smith told ctvtoronto.ca on Tuesday that information about the incident is sketchy, but he said the woman lives in the neighbourhood.

The incident occurred at about 2:50 p.m.

The collision occurred at Bloor Street West and St. Helen's Avenue, which is just west of Landsdowne Avenue. The driver stopped when he realized something had happened, remained at the scene and co-operated with police, Smith said.

Police closed the area for an investigation.

They are asking witnesses to called either 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).
