Police are investigating a suspected truck hijacking that began in Mississauga and ended at Highway 401 and Leslie Street.
Thursday afternoon's incident began at 3:45 p.m. at an LG electronics plant in Mississauga, Const. Wayne Patterson of Peel Regional Police told ctvtoronto.ca.
An individual allegedly tied up the driver, covered his head and put him in the trailer, and then fled with the truck. Patterson said he didn't know what the truck might have been carrying.
The alleged hijacker made it all the way to the Leslie/401 area before fleeing. OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford said officers don't know if the suspect fled on foot or in another vehicle.
A CTV.ca reporter on his way home reported seeing four Emergency Task Force vans speeding north on Leslie Street before turning right on Sheppard Avenue north of the 401.
MTO cameras showed the truck surrounded by OPP cruisers. The driver was unharmed.
Woodford said the driver doesn't speak much English, so an interpreter had to be found.
Patterson said robbery detectives were interviewing the driver at about 8 p.m. Until that interview is complete, police won't have much else to pass along, he said.
