Two people, including a young offender, have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old male in the city's north-west end.

Charged are a 16-year-old, who cannot be named, and David Jajua, 18. Police said Thursday the two suspects were from Rexdale, and "were known to the victim."

They were arrested in Etobicoke around the lunch hour.

Homicide Detective Hank Izinga told ctvtoronto.ca he believed the shooting was "not gang related", but added: "We're not done. We anticipate more people will be charged in relation to the offence."

The body of Nerio Valdez was found Aug. 2 near a hydro field in the Provence Trail and Cabernet Circle area near Martin Grove Road and Steeles Avenue by a group of hikers.

Police say the victim suffered multiple gunshots wounds. Investigators say they have not recovered a firearm yet.

Nearby residents say they heard gunfire the night of the shooting, but didn't report it to police because they thought the sounds were fireworks.

The wooded area where Valdez was found was hidden from the view of neighbouring homes.

As part of their investigation police reviewed video footage from surveillance cameras that were installed in an adjacent industrial zone.
