TORONTO - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to consume some ready-to-eat deli meats from Delstar Foods Inc. as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Affected by the alert are sliced meats such as smoked beef, salami and pastrami from Delstar and Compliments brands.

The packages bear the establishment number 308 with a best before date between Aug. 26 and Oct. 1.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the meats.

The agency warns that food contaminated with Listeria bacteria may not look or smell spoiled but can cause listeriosis--a food borne illness marked by high fever, neck stiffness, severe headaches and nausea.

The affected products have been distributed in Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta , British Columbia, Yukon and the Northwest Territories. The manufacturer is voluntarily recalling the products from the marketplace.
