DETROIT - A Kitchener, Ont. man with leukemia whose life was saved with a bone marrow transplant has finally met the Texan who gave him a new chance at life.

Twenty-six-year-old Dany Mercado exchanged a big hug Wednesday with 30-year-old Wesley Hamilton of Abilene, Texas, at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit.

Both men brought their families for the meeting, arranged to help publicize the Be The Match Registry that Karmanos doctors used to match them in November 2007.

Mercado received marrow from Hamilton at Karmanos in January 2008.

Mercado is a mechanical engineering student at Conestoga College. He calls Hamilton his "angel" and "superhero."

Hamilton is an emergency room doctor at Hendrick Medical Center.
