A Mississauga man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his 58 year-old mother.

Peel Regional police said they responded to a 12:28 a.m. Wednesday call to an address on Laburnum Crescent in Mississauga.

"Upon arrival, a 58 year-old Mississauga woman was discovered suffering from obvious signs of trauma. She was pronounced dead at the scene," the service said in a news release.

They have identified the victim as Nevie Phillips. She is Peel Region's 14th homicide victim of 2009.

Police have reportedly recovered a weapon, but have not revealed what type.

Police have arrested and charged Nigel Phillips, 28. He was to make a brief court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice and be remanded into custody.
