Transport officials are still at the site of a helicopter crash that killed an experienced pilot from Georgetown, Ont.
Officials say they are trying to determine why the aircraft careened out of control and crashed into an apple orchard at around 8 p.m. Monday in the Heritage Road and Steeles Avenue area of Brampton.
Friends confirmed Keith Siversen was the pilot. Siversen was declared dead at the scene. He was the only passenger in the aircraft.
Witnesses said they saw the helicopter plunge nose first into the ground before exploding into a ball of fire.
Records show the two-seater helicopter was registered to Siversen. Police say the flight originated from City Centre Airport on the Toronto islands.
A friend outside the family home told CTV Toronto that Siversen was a "wonderful guy." His wife was too distraught to speak to the media.
