A Toronto man is sporting a sore shoulder but fortunately no other injuries after a runaway tire destroyed his windshield on Highway 401.

"I guess I feel lucky to be alive," John Lee said Thursday.

When you look at his vehicle, you can understand why. The tire completely smashed in his windshield and damaged the car's roof.

Lee was heading to work during his morning commute. He was in the westbound collector lanes near Avenue Road at about 6 a.m. when the driver's side rear wheel of an eastbound pickup truck broke free.

The tire bounced over the median barrier and slammed into Lee's car. Despite the shock and damage, Lee maintained control of his vehicle and was able to slow down and pull over.

The driver of the pickup truck has been charged with operating an unsafe vehicle.

Lee continued in to work. Asked if he would be buying some lottery tickets, Lee said: "I guess so. But my luck may have all been used in that one little car accident."
