Homicide officers are investigating a deadly hit-and-run that occurred in the city's entertainment district just after 3 a.m.

Police say a 27-year-old man was beaten by at least two other men, who then allegedly stepped into a dark SUV and ran over their victim.

The SUV then sped from the scene, near Adelaide and Victoria Streets, in an eastward direction.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and took the man to hospital, but he was pronounced dead during emergency surgery.

The victim's name has not been released, but officers say he had been out partying in the area before the incident.

Officers are looking to analyze footage that may have been recorded from several of the area's surveillance cameras.
