A man has been charged with first-degree murder after a Mississauga stabbing victim died.

According to Peel Police, 59-year-old Ernesto Agsaulio was stabbed in the abdomen Sunday afternoon at a home on Gareth Drive in Mississauga. He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery, but succumbed to his injuries.

Officers allege the suspect went to Agsaulio's home armed with a knife and hatchet in an effort to confront his estranged wife. Peel Const. Jodi Dawson told ctvtoronto.ca that Agsaulio is the woman's uncle.

Police do not know what suspect's intentions with the weapons were, or if Agsaulio was defending his niece when he was stabbed. The suspect was held by witnesses at the scene and was taken into custody when police arrived.

Willie Ching, 55, appeared in a Brampton court Sunday and was charged with first-degree-murder. He also appeared in court Monday for a bail hearing.

This is Peel Region's 17th murder of the year.
