A body has been found in the rubble of a burned-out building near the intersection of Dupont and Bathurst Streets, and there are fears it may be that of someone who tried to warn others about the weekend blaze.

Marie Speck, 50, had lived in the structure located at 1079 Bathurst St.

Firefighters were called to the three-alarm blaze shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Toronto Police said Monday in a news release that Speck had roused other occupants to warn them about the fire.

"All occupants are safe, due to Marie Speck's actions," they said.

No one could find Speck after the blaze, despite a few searches being conducted of the burned-out building.

Demolition began Monday night. On Tuesday afternoon, a body was located in the rubble. Identification teams took some photographs before fire and coroner's office staff removed the body.

However, authorities have not yet confirmed or denied it is Speck's body.
