Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, visited a 2010 Olympics site in Vancouver on Saturday, to the sounds of First Nations drumming.

The couple toured the Olympic and Paralympic village, accompanied by B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell and Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson.

Hundreds of people weathered rain to catch a glimpse of, or to meet the royals.

"It was so exciting," said well-wisher Anne Marsh. "They were getting closer and closer, and I thought 'I'm going to shake their hands.'"

Olympic and Paralympic athletes also had a chance to speak with the Charles and Camilla during their stop at the village.

"Prince Charles was saying that he'd like to go skiing in the bugaboos, and what did I think? How was the snow?" said Paralympic skier Karolina Wisniewska.

The Prince spent the afternoon meeting with young entrepreneurs, and with patients at two hospitals, while Camilla visited a local botanical garden.

The couple was then scheduled to fly back to Victoria for a dinner hosted by Campbell and Lt. Gov. Steven L. Point.

They will spend a quiet Sunday going to church in Victoria with no more scheduled events for the day.

About 1,000 people gathered in front of British Columbia's legislature in Victoria for Charles and Camilla's arrival in the province on Friday.

The crowd braved light rain as Campbell received the British royals.

"For me this is what I thought was possibly my fifth or sixth visit, but the premier tells me it's my fourth, which just shows ... it's what happens when you get older, ladies and gentlemen," Charles joked.

The 60-year-old prince also remarked on the province's rugged beauty, calling it a "remarkable part of the world," and describing how much he enjoyed skiing with his sons in Whistler in 1998.

The couple had finished a tour of the Toronto area before leaving for B.C.

After their stops in British Columbia, the couple will visit Montreal and then shift to Ottawa, where they'll attend the annual Remembrance Day ceremony at the National War Memorial.

The two will wrap up their visit on Nov. 12. The 11-day tour is their first visit to Canada since their marriage.
