Toronto police have confirmed the identity of a man who was murdered inside a home in Yorkville.
Gerald Robert Brown's lifeless body was found on Wednesday morning at 114 Bedford Rd.
In a news release, authorities said Brown, 67, suffered obvious signs of trauma. Neighbours had identified Brown to CTV Toronto on Wednesday.
That day, they told CTV Toronto that there was no sign of forced entry into the apartment, and that it was normal for the door to be unlocked.
One resident of the building said Brown lived with a younger man. The resident said he often heard yelling from the basement apartment.
Brown was described as a quiet, stable man who often walked his dogs in the neighbourhood. He wasn't married but had two sisters in Toronto.
An autopsy Thursday determined the cause of death to be a sharp force wound to the neck.
James Chalaturnyk, 33, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with second degree murder on Friday.
He will appear in court on Monday morning.
Brown is Toronto's 48th homicide victim of the year.
