TORONTO - The Green Party of Ontario is choosing its first new leader in 16 years.

Toronto businessman and entrepreneur Mike Schreiner is expected to get the job tonight at the party's leadership convention in London.

Schreiner, who served as the party's policy co-ordinator, is the only candidate running to replace outgoing leader Frank de Jong.

De Jong took the party's reins in 1993.

He led the Greens to their best finish in 2007, when they captured eight per cent of the vote -- but again failed to win a seat at Queen's Park.

De Jong says Schreiner "lives green" and his agricultural knowledge makes him an excellent leadership candidate.
