Durham Regional Police say an autopsy performed on the body of a woman found in a Whitby ravine on Thursday shows "no anatomical cause of death."
In a news release issued Friday, they say there were no signs of trauma or sexual assault on the body, and so they don't suspect foul play at this time.
The next step is to conduct a toxicology screen, which could take several months to complete. "Hopefully the toxicology tests will shed further light on the cause of death," police said.
The body is that of a 26-year-old Pickering woman. She had been staying in a White Oaks Crescent apartment building in Whitby that was close to the Lynne Creek ravine where her body was found by a passerby.
"Next of kin have been notified and the DRPS is not releasing the identity of the female as no foul play is suspected," police said.
