This weekend will be the last chance to get a swine flu shot at a public clinic in Toronto before the holidays.

"The H1N1 flu virus is still circulating in Toronto, and vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself and others around you," Toronto Public Health said on its website.

The city closed three clinics on Tuesday. The following will be open until 4 p.m. Sunday:

  • Metro Hall, 55 John St., rotunda
  • East York Civic Centre, 850 Coxwell Ave., lower level
  • North York Civic Centre, 5100 Yonge St., members lounge
  • Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall, rooms 1, 2 and 3
  • Scarborough Civic Centre (rotunda), 150 Borough

"A limited number of clinics will be held in January in order to give young children a second dose of H1N1 vaccine. These clinics will also provide another opportunity for the general public to get both seasonal and H1N1 vaccines. Dates, times and locations will be announced in the coming weeks," the agency said.

To date, more than 200,000 people in Toronto have received the shot at the clinics. Toronto Public Health has distributed more than one million doses of the vaccine to various health-care providers ranging from family doctors to private clinics.

However, that's still less than half the population of the city. At the last update issued by the province on Dec. 4, about 30 per cent of Ontarians had been immunized.
