EDMONTON - RCMP say there is no evidence a missing young woman from Toronto is in Alberta or recently visited the province.

Earlier this month Mounties looked into reports that Mariam Makniashvili, 18, was possibly seen in Grande Prairie.

There was also an earlier report that she was seen in October near Calgary.

Cpl. Wayne Oakes said police checked out both tips and they were false.

Makniashvili was last seen arriving at school in Toronto with her younger brother on Sept. 14.

Police never detected any evidence of foul play after searching for the woman, who moved to Canada from the Republic of Georgia last summer and speaks little English.
